Darren Breeden

Darren Breeden serves as the inaugural Community Justice Fellow with the Jailhouse Lawyers Initiative (JLI) at the Robert and Helen Bernstein Institute for Human Rights at the NYU School of Law. As a Legal Empowerment professional with JLI, he advocates for the rights of current and formerly incarcerated persons to learn and use the law without obstruction. Darren is also the Community Intake Advocate with the Neighborhood Defender Service of Harlem—Civil Defense Practice. He currently serves on the New Jersey Community Health Study Advisory Board and assists in identifying environmental and social factors that affect the health of communities and their relationship to New Jersey’s Bail Reform Legislation. Darren graduated from Bard College with a Specialization in Public Health, earned New York State Paralegal Certification and a Paralegal Certification from Columbia University School of Law.
