Sharon Turner Community Activist and Organizer
Sharon is actively involved in her community as a 30-year activist and organizer in the social justice arenas of environmental justice, criminal justice and reproductive justice advocacy. Ms. Turner’s lived experience in the carceral system serving a sentence of 15 years to serve 10 years Recently trained and certified as a community doula and a prison doula, Sharon’s goal is to create legislation and build support to prevent women and girls who are pregnant from entering the carceral systems providing them an opportunity to heal and receive support to address their needs through a holistic approach and keep their babies they birth. Ms. Turner serves as a volunteer and member of the National Council for Incarcerated and Formerly Incarcerated Women and Girls. She is also a board member and grant writer for Talk2MeFoundatiion an organization whose mission is to break the generational cycle of incarceration focusing on youth and their caregivers impacted by the justice system. Sharon is also an Alumni fellow to Women Transcending Collective Leadership, Women Organizing for Justice and Opportunity, Sustainable Georgia Futures Green Fellowship, Center for Popular Democracy FED Up National Fellow, Lead organizer for the Free Her March/Rally April 24, and 2024 Washington DC. and National Alliance to End Homelessness member. Ms. Turner is also a consultant and social entrepreneur.
